Managing Neighbourhoods

Housing organisations can help make Manchester's neighbourhoods better places to live and work.

Although there is no ready definition of a neighbourhood, the boundaries used by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership may be useful.

Neither is there a single model of 'neighbourhood management' applicable to all areas of the city - but the Council has a key role in co-ordinating and managing the work of public and non-public agencies in all neighbourhoods.

Key issues

Our aims are to:

  • improve the contribution of the housing sector (public, independent and private) to the management of Manchester's neighbourhoods
  • ensure that housing supports and delivers the objectives of the community strategy and plays a full role in creating and maintaining sustainable neighbourhoods
