Manchester Strategic Housing Partnership

A resource for all partners and stakeholders in the city's housing
The new Manchester Move service
Manchester’s housing market has changed. As social housing providers we’re all aware that more people than ever are applying for a limited amount of not-for-profit housing.
We need to encourage homeseekers to raise their sights, and support them with the right tools, the right information and the right advice to be more proactive and flexible in their search for a home. Manchester City Council and its housing partners are addressing this through a number of linked initiatives called the Manchester Move service. Together we are:
- reviewing Manchester City Council’s allocations policy to make it simpler to use and fairer for those who use it.
- developing new tools to plug homeseekers into a wider pool of housing options: social renting, private renting, part-rent part-buy, and owning outright.
- giving homeseekers new levels of accurate, tailor-made advice about the chances of getting a home, detailing waiting times, costs, availability and possible alternatives.
- rewarding working households by offering them first refusal for social homes on selected brand new developments - WorkingXtra.
- and, through Step Up, training frontline workers and housing advisors to show homeseekers how to overcome the barriers that can hold people back from getting a home and reaching their full potential.
We’ll update these web pages regularly with developments and timescales on the Manchester Move service.
