Respect and Community Cohesion

More about Respect and Community Cohesion

Tackling antisocial behaviour remains a high priority for housing providers. By working in partnership, and embracing the Respect and Community Cohesion agenda, we can build and maintain sustainable neighbourhoods in Manchester.

Community cohesion is about enabling different groups of people to get on well together and to trust local institutions and each other. Manchester City Council has identified a set of components for community cohesion in the city. They include: focusing on what people have in common and how they can contribute to the city; embracing the city’s diversity; and striving for equality of opportunity.

Key issues

Our aims are to:

  • be involved in Respect and Community Cohesion strategies and the antisocial behaviour pioneer area
  • influence policy, and remove operational blockages and duplication
  • review key performance indicators, and recommend change and improvement
  • contribute to the city-wide antisocial behaviour and community cohesion strategies
  • monitor the delivery of the family intervention project
  • explore opportunities for further joint-working, and share good practice between providers
